The Last Man Standing

Imagine being apostle John in the later years of his life.  He was the last one of those who had personally witnessed the life and the ministry, the miracles and the humanity of Jesus of Nazareth.

He wrote of these events when he was decades past the ministry, and years past the martyrdom of his fellow disciples, including that of his own brother.  Every other of the 11 who witnessed “God with us” including Matthias, lost their lives for the sake of their beliefs and for spreading the good news about the life and works of the Messiah.

These men shared with John the extraordinary experiences of following Jesus on pathways that lead to unknown places, ideas, and truths.  We also may understand this feeling if we have had a shared profound experience in our own life.

The experience would be FOREVER linked with those who shared it with us.

When John began to understand the lessons and parables, he came to know that there was a plan at work, bigger than anyone could have imagined.

He must have been amazed at all that was happening around him. It was real, it was miraculous, it was long awaited prophecy coming to life.

He recorded his experiences decades later when he was old, alone, and in exile. He documented all that had happened and reflected on what it meant, and how it had changed him. There were so much to tell!

How many words would it take to describe the miracle of the fish and loaves? How is it possible to condense down the happenings of that day into a chapter and a few verses?

Thousands had followed Jesus, hungry for his presence, his miracles, and his words. Many were far from their homes, with no food and evening was approaching…….. now what?

Talk about a “what if” moment. Imagine what could have happened on that day. Knowing what we do about human behavior, calm & orderly behavior hardly seems likely.

What is documented about this real-life event?

Organized groups, praising the Father in gratitude for the five loaves and two fishes that fed five thousand men, besides women and children. This was a miracle from GOD, performed by the Son, with the assistance of the 12, and the cooperation of thousands. Every single person had enough, and there was more, twelve baskets more.

There was so much to tell that he claimed: “The world could not contain the books that would be written”. (John 20:25)

Day after day, miracle after miracle, story after story………what a Revelation.
